Job SummaryChampion Controls, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls Field Technician to join our team. As a key member of our engineering design services, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and repairing industrial control systems and instrumentation in the field and our factory.Key Responsibilities
  • Read and understand installation procedures from control diagrams, schematics, blueprints, specifications, and operating instructions for all types of instruments, control systems, and control strategies.
  • Calibrate, test, install, and repair instrumentations in the field and our factory.
  • Perform loop checks in the field during startups and commissioning.
  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
  • Repair or adjust equipment, or defective components, replacing worn parts, such as gaskets or seals in watertight electrical equipment.
  • Inspect components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
  • Examine work orders and communicate with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
  • Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  • Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests.
  • Coordinate efforts with other workers involved in installing or maintaining equipment or components.
  • Consult with customers, supervisors, or engineers to plan layout of equipment or to resolve problems in system operation or maintenance.
  • Send defective units to the manufacturer or to a specialized repair shop for repair.
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, or suggestions for product improvements.
  • Develop scopes of work for I&C systems, networks, and projects.
  • Lead I&C design teams for medium and large projects.
  • Specify industrial fiber optic networks, systems, and components.
  • Design SCADA network block diagrams.
  • Select instrumentations as specified or required.
  • Develop P&IDs.
  • Develop control strategies.
  • Prepare ISA data sheets and calibration reports.
  • Develop input/output point lists.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • College degree or trade school certification.
  • 5+ years of Instrumentation & Controls experience.
  • Ability to stand on your feet up to 8 hours a day.
  • Advance problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Valid Driver's license required.
  • This position requires travel to local job sites.
