Job Summary:

The Lead Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for supervising the department that performs diagnostic, non-invasive, and invasive cardiac exams on patients using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart.

The testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in overseeing, scheduling, and coordinating the sonographers of the vascular department.
  • Interviews, terminates, and conducts job performance reviews for associates.
  • Inputs data for associates' time and attendance, including making any changes needed in the time-keeping system.
  • Performs all essential job functions of a Registered Cardiac Sonographer.
  • Demonstrates ability to proficiently perform non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac anatomy, exam procedures, and interpretation of results.
  • On-call hours are required.

Education:

  • An associate's degree in an applied health science field with a concentration in cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography, or other related study is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association is required.
  • Credentialed in echocardiography by one of the following organizations: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Experience:

  • One year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer is required.
  • Two years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer is preferred.
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) experience are preferred.
