Job Title: Field Engineer

Flatiron Construction Corp is seeking a highly skilled Field Engineer to join our team for the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel expansion project. As a key member of our project team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of this complex project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project crews to review production schedules and confirm the availability of materials, equipment, and resources.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data to ensure quality and contract specification compliance.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying potential risks that could impact the budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track project performance and document daily activities using approved methods and technologies.
  • Notify team members and management of significant schedule changes and recommend solutions for consideration.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
  • Remit accurate project quantity input and controls using assigned project cost coding to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and approve daily timecards for construction crews and work with office management, payroll, and job construction supervisors to resolve timecard inquiries.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at the beginning of work, during the project, and after completion, initiating and managing certificates, inspections, and documentation as needed.
  • Work with construction crews and engineering leaders to plan field layouts, ensuring utility and commercial lines are marked before production begins, and initiate and manage necessary permits.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to ensure a safe and compliant work environment, attending weekly safety meetings and presenting field analysis as needed.
  • Assist the estimating team with project schedules and provide technical input as required.
  • Assist in the development of design drawings and provide technical input as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as necessary.
  • Reconcile job close-out checklists with owner representatives and field crews at the end of the project.
  • Maintain knowledge of company values and strategic plans.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 1+ years of construction engineering experience.
  • Beginner knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to the project.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Proven self-starter and self-motivated to learn and grow knowledge.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management.
