Essential Qualifications:Technical Expertise
Applicants should possess a comprehensive understanding of English grammar and punctuation, along with substantial experience in technical editing and writing. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in assessing technical documents to ascertain the required level and depth of editing based on various factors, including length, complexity, structure, and deadlines.
Experience in performing diverse levels of editing, from basic proofreading to substantive revisions on specialized technical documents, is essential. Additionally, the ability to grasp and learn new technical concepts and terminology is required.
Communication Proficiency
Excellence in both written and verbal communication, problem-solving abilities, and strong customer service and interpersonal skills are crucial.
Project Management and Client Relations
The ability to manage multiple, sometimes conflicting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure environment is necessary. Effectiveness in collaborating within a team and engaging with various technical personnel and managers is vital.
Maintaining professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical staff, and a range of managers is expected.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat is required, along with a solid understanding of Word styles and templates and PowerPoint-specific formatting.
Educational Background and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Industry Familiarity
Experience with highly technical documents and procedures is advantageous. Familiarity with large, complex institutions or organizations is desirable, as is experience with extensive, multi-agency technical programs.
Experience handling sensitive and classified documents and communications would be beneficial.
