Job Summary:The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for facilitating the planning, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of all driver training requirements in accordance with Company policies, procedures, operating standards, state and federal laws/regulations, and industry standards/requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Train and supervise new drivers, driver trainers & risk management repeaters in all lines of business for all locations
- Provide On-the-Job training and coaching of new drivers and supervisors and retrains drivers as required
- Coach defensive driving initiatives, emergency reporting and response, and hours of service
- Assist with driver safety technology and reporting
- Operates vehicles and equipment in accordance with OSHA and DOT requirements
- Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR in accordance with FMSCS DOT regulations
- Coordinate with maintenance for a high level of truck preventive maintenance
- Observe the AM deployment/assignment of collection vehicles/personnel based on existing job/contract priorities and vehicle/equipment/personnel availability
- Monitor route downtime while communicating with maintenance personnel to minimize the effect on productivity
- Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures
- Review safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates
- Maintain training documentation and records of all driver's training
- Assist with minimizing driver turnover
- Handle special projects and other related safety duties as assigned
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- 3 years of progressively responsible experience in a solid waste operation including six (6) months of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to safely operate all collection vehicles and equipment
- Ability to perform in an environment with ambiguous situations, rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines
- Knowledgeable in FMCSA, OSHA, Federal DOT, and other related state and federal regulations
- Knowledge of principles and practices of training
- Experienced in all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Able to meet all DOT requirements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
- Able to effectively communicate with people
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
- High degree of initiative and independent execution
- Ability to travel 75% of time
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical
- Must be able to climb into and out of truck several times per day using 3 points of contact
- Must be able to sit for long periods as well as walk for short periods
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, and squat in order to perform a full inspection of the underside of the truck and inspect tires for adequate inflation and potential damage
- Must be able to work outside for short periods of time in all types of weather
- Must be able to see and hear proficiently to operate a commercial motor vehicle in a safe manner
- Must be able to work in a moderately noisy environment
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License, with Air Brakes
