This role reports to the Executive Counsel - Benefits and Executive Compensation within the Legal & Compliance Group. The position will engage primarily with legal, human resources, administrative operations, controllership, and finance teams. The focus will be on managing qualified retirement plans (such as pension and 401(k) programs) and welfare benefit plans (including health, disability, and life insurance programs). Additionally, the role will involve providing legal counsel on executive compensation arrangements, fringe benefits, and on-site medical services.
Key Responsibilities
As part of this role, you will:
- Oversee legal matters concerning the company's benefit plans, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations (including IRS, HHS, DOL, PBGC, and SEC requirements).
- Advise on plan administration, fiduciary responsibilities, and legal aspects of benefit design modifications.
- Provide tax-related guidance on Section 409A and other benefit-related issues.
- Draft and review plan documentation, participant communications, and fiduciary committee charters and minutes.
- Support benefits-related components of business acquisitions, dispositions, and labor negotiations.
- Manage claims disputes and related litigation.
- J.D. with a minimum of 5 years of comprehensive legal experience in employee benefit plans.
- In-depth knowledge of tax regulations, ERISA, ACA, and other applicable laws concerning benefit plans and executive compensation.
- Experience in conducting legal research related to employee benefits.
- Proficiency in drafting provisions and communications for benefit plans.
- Self-driven and motivated.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Solid academic credentials.
