Compassionate Hospice Caregiver

$15-17/hr
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility is to deliver personal healthcare and associated services to patients within their residences. This role involves ensuring a safe and sanitary environment, collaborating effectively with patients and their families, and communicating observations and concerns to the supervising nurse.
Requirements:
Works under the guidance and oversight of a registered nurse.
Certification:
CPR certification is required if you are a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Educational Background:
A High School Diploma is preferred.
Qualifications:
Must have successfully completed one of the following:
- A training program/competency evaluation as outlined in Medicare regulations;
- A competency evaluation program that meets specified criteria;
- A nurse aide training/competency evaluation program approved by the state;
- A state licensure program that fulfills regulatory requirements.
Licensing:
An active CNA license and a current driver's license are mandatory.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience is preferred, either as a Hospice Aide or Nursing Assistant in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospices, or long-term care facilities, or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Home Health Aide Program.
Skills:
Candidates must possess the ability to read, write, and verbally communicate clinical information to patients, their representatives, caregivers, and other agency staff. A demonstrated interest in the welfare of the ill and elderly is essential. Successful completion of the Aide Competency Evaluation Skills Checklist and written Skills Test is required.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation is necessary, along with valid and current auto liability insurance.
Work Environment:
Work occurs in patients' homes under various conditions, with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases. Flexibility in scheduling and local travel is required, along with some exposure to inclement weather.
Physical and Mental Demands:
This position requires prolonged standing and walking, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the capacity to move patients. The role may involve working under stressful conditions to meet deadlines, identify patient needs, and make prompt decisions to address patient and family requirements. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are necessary, as well as the ability to utilize durable medical equipment in a home setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care under the direction of the RN and according to the Aide Plan of Care.
- Assist patients with safe transfers and ambulation in accordance with agency policies.
- Accurately report changes and document relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
- Adhere to accepted infection control practices, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Foster positive, supportive, and respectful communication with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Uphold patient privacy and property rights.
- Support patients with proper nutrition and adequate fluid intake.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the agency while demonstrating effective time management skills.
- Perform treatments and procedures as per agency policy.
- Promote the agency's philosophy and administrative policies to ensure high-quality care.
