About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to join our team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. As a Surgical Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room and patient for surgical procedures, applying principles and techniques of asepsis to ensure a safe and sterile environment.
  • Assist surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals with preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties, ensuring that equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
  • Collaborate with the inter-disciplinary team to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic procedures, utilizing and keeping current on the application of sterile and aseptic technique, surgical procedures, implementation tools, and technologies.
  • Provide safe handling and care for instruments and specimens in accordance with internal procedures, and operate sterilization devices, including immediate use containment devices, autoclaves, and other types of sterilizers, following the manufacturers' instructions.
  • Identify emergencies and initiate and/or participate in the appropriate response to the situation, and perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a surgical technology program accredited through the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST).
  • A minimum of six months operating room work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing may be substituted for graduation from an accredited surgical technician program.
  • Current certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) or National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) is required for Surgical Technician Certified positions.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
