Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and properties to ensure compliance with zoning regulations.
  • Investigate complaints and issues related to zoning violations, and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Issue notices of violations and enforce remedial actions to restore compliance.
  • Assist applicants with the completion of zoning permit applications and Zoning Board of Appeals applications.
  • Review plans to determine compliance with zoning regulations and other relevant laws.
  • Maintain accurate records of permit applications and related documents.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of prior work experience in Civil Engineering or Land Surveying.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Certification by the Connecticut Association of Zoning Enforcement Officials within three years of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of City zoning regulations and Connecticut General Statutes.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and assess situations to make impartial judgments.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position that requires occasional exposure to intermittent machine noise or unpleasant elements such as odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt, or grease. Work may involve work at heights or in confined or cramped quarters.
