Position Overview

Thompson Engineering is actively seeking a Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) Inspector to join our team. This role will focus on overseeing transportation projects, which involves evaluating, measuring, and documenting the work executed by construction contractors while providing essential support to Project and Construction Managers.


Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor, assess, and record the activities of construction contractors
  • Assist Project/Construction Manager in generating payment reports and maintaining comprehensive project logs
  • Conduct field tests on materials such as concrete and asphalt, adhering to established protocols and standards
  • Collaborate with Project/Construction Manager to ensure compliance with environmental, traffic, and erosion control regulations
  • Follow Safety Policies, including the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
  • Keep detailed inspector logs and track vehicle maintenance and mileage

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma, with a preference for candidates possessing one year of education or training in engineering, science, or technology, or up to two years of relevant experience
  • Possession of one or more certifications from ALDOT, ACI, QCI, or other transportation-related organizations
  • Capability to comprehend procedural manuals and execute work directives
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to instructions
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Completion of Health and Safety Training and Defensive Driving Courses is mandatory upon hiring
  • Willingness to operate various equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, and Thermometer; comprehensive training will be provided
  • Availability for overtime and potential travel as required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and lift weights up to 50 pounds
  • Capability to operate large pick-up trucks and trailers
  • Proficiency in using hands for operating field equipment
