POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Support Nurse (CSN) plays a pivotal role by delivering on-site expert guidance to Patient Care Services personnel in intricate patient care scenarios. The CSN is responsible for educating and assisting staff in acquiring essential patient care competencies that necessitate further training, may require clinical certification, and are not readily available through unit-specific opportunities. Additionally, the CSN has designated direct patient care obligations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate the development of clinical skills among staff and assist in resolving complex patient care challenges.
2. Instruct and support staff in initiating and managing intravascular therapy.
3. Deliver direct care in selected complex patient care scenarios.
4. Effectively negotiate to achieve mutual agreements with staff and management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully fulfill this role, an individual must be capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily as outlined in the annual competency assessment. Reasonable accommodations may be provided, where feasible, to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to execute the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a recognized professional nursing program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or actively pursuing a BSN is preferred. Must possess a current RN Registration or a Limited Permit to practice in the State of New York.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of recent acute care clinical experience in specific patient populations served.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Effectively communicates with patients, family members, colleagues, and others. Actively listens and verifies and clarifies messages. Seeks input from others to reach consensus. Applies problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills in communication. Utilizes the Chain of Command as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes. Reads and interprets documents such as Quality Reports and Hospital Policies and Procedures. Ensures that patient care is documented on established forms.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
Conducts responsibilities in accordance with the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by Albany Medical Center and the principles of the Professional Nursing Organization. Demonstrates diligence in record-keeping. Exercises sound judgment when performing job functions or interacting with others. Accepts guidance, follows instructions, collaborates with others, and avoids unnecessary conflict. Adheres to Albany Medical Center's policies, standards, and practices and employs the organization's problem-solving processes for addressing grievances or disagreements. Anticipates and resolves potential issues to ensure the delivery of appropriate quality patient care. Pursues professional development to enhance job performance and maintains competency through required continuing education.
REASONING ABILITY:
Identifies issues, gathers data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Solves practical problems and addresses a variety of situations where limited standardization exists. Interprets various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to probe, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and speak and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to infectious materials and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. This role requires that the majority of the time the employee be physically present on-site, as the work cannot be performed remotely.
