Position Overview

The Clinical Simulation Educator plays a vital role in supporting the Nursing Learning Center and the clinical skills laboratory. This position is essential for facilitating simulation activities within the Nursing Department. The educator acts as both an evaluator and a mentor for students seeking academic and clinical skills enhancement. This is a full-time, 12-month staff role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the nursing laboratory for all student activities.
  • Manage the setup and teardown of lab exercises throughout the day and evening.
  • Maintain an inventory of essential medical and nursing supplies.
  • Hold current American Heart Association BLS instructor certification and conduct faculty recertification programs as necessary.
  • Orient new faculty and assist current faculty in utilizing simulation to achieve student learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design high-quality, immersive simulations.
  • Participate in the simulation task force committee to enhance learning through pre- and post-simulation activities.
  • Collect and analyze statistical data related to simulation sessions and lab hours, including student and faculty feedback and outcomes.
  • Apply sound evaluation principles to assess student progress and ongoing learning needs.
  • Provide one-on-one or group tutoring and skill support to students referred by faculty, generating progress reports as needed.
  • Ensure confidentiality and privacy regarding student matters.
  • Co-create simulation scenarios with faculty focusing on specific content areas.
  • Facilitate simulation scenarios alongside lab assistants or faculty members.
  • Lead debriefing sessions post-simulation to discuss outcomes with students and facilitators.
  • Attend a national simulation conference annually.
  • Support students in mastering Dimensional Analysis and report on their progress.
  • Create an engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty colleagues.
  • Maintain necessary credentials and licenses for the role.
  • Contribute to the Simulation Committee and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current RN licensure in good standing is mandatory.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained upon hire.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time nursing experience in a medical-surgical or critical care setting is essential; prior simulation experience is preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the clinical or college level is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with simulation pedagogy is preferred.
  • Experience in utilizing simulation within nursing education is a plus.
Additional Skills
  • Must be up-to-date with all required immunizations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently while being an effective team player.
  • Proficient in general computer skills, including MS Office Suite and database management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to interact with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and professionally.
  • Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and creative problem-solving abilities.
