The City of Dover is seeking a skilled Truck Driver to join our Public Works team. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position with a competitive hourly rate of $20.47 to $29.63.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy-duty trucks and equipment to transport materials, debris, and supplies for street maintenance and construction projects.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as servicing vehicles with gas, oil, and water, and notifying superiors and mechanics of needed repairs.
- Assist in manual labor tasks, including street patching, laying pipe, and picking up debris, as well as seasonal duties like snow plowing and sand/salt application.
- Prepare trucks and equipment for emergency and seasonal operations, such as snow removal and cleanup.
- Operate vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all laws, ordinances, and policies.
- Perform heavy physical work in varying weather conditions and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Supervise unskilled and semi-skilled workers involved in routine road maintenance and construction activities, as assigned.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the general public.
- Establish and maintain safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated skill and experience in operating and caring for heavy-duty trucks and related construction equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and safety procedures related to truck and heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to understand, follow, and make oral and written instructions.
- Sufficient physical strength, conditioning, and agility to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods.
A High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years' experience in the operation and care of heavy-duty trucks, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A valid New Hampshire CDL-B with Air Brake Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement is also required, with CDL-A with endorsements preferred.
