Job Overview
Under the guidance of the Recreation Superintendent and/or Recreation Coordinator, the Sports Event Coordinator oversees officials, matches, and competitions. This role involves clarifying and enforcing regulations, evaluating officials, maintaining order at program venues, and managing time effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in all training sessions and fulfill all scheduled matches.
- Ensure referees complete timekeeping documentation accurately.
- Maintain control over leagues and represent Lindon Parks & Recreation positively.
- Implement rules and safety measures for the sport, venue, and field.
- Assist participants and officials, addressing inquiries and concerns.
- Oversee field preparation and post-event clean-up.
- Inspect equipment prior to matches, ensuring all officials are properly equipped.
- Foster a safe and encouraging work environment.
- Report any issues or concerns regarding facilities, coaches, participants, equipment, colleagues, and spectators to the Superintendent or Coordinator.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of the specific sport; prior experience as a referee or umpire is preferred.
- Familiarity with the designated sport and its standard regulations is preferred.
- Understanding of standard safety protocols.
- Must be 16 years or older. Preference for high school seniors or graduates.
- Ability to comprehend and effectively execute oral and written instructions.
- Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, department staff, and the public.
- Ability to manage referees, coaches, and spectators in a courteous and tactful manner.
