Job Summary

As a member of the YouthBuild program at SER Metro-Detroit, the Social Worker will provide support, advice, and educational wellness programming to young adults ages 16-24 to enhance their overall well-being. This includes offering resources for mental health, physical fitness, and emotional resilience, and promoting healthy lifestyle choices and personal development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine individual's mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs.
  • Provide counseling, general assistance, and clinical counseling to YouthBuilders.
  • Coordinate workshops, groups, outreach, presentations, and other activities to help YouthBuilders manage day-to-day lifestyle.
  • Refer participants to resources and other agencies as necessary.
  • Offer one-on-one guidance and support.
  • Assist with students to provide final assessments, psychiatric, social, and physical needs.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress regarding treatment goals.
  • Refer clients or family to community resources for treatment to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness.
  • Modify treatment plans according to changes in client status.
Requirements
  • MSW or LCSW degree required.
  • 2 to 3 years of social work case management experience (preferably with opportunity youth).
  • Capable of working in high-pressure situations.
  • Commitment to the goals and objectives of the program and to the mission of SER Metro-Detroit and SER YouthBuild Learning Academy.
  • Critical thinking, data analysis, and strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to support students and families of all religious and cultural backgrounds.
  • A high degree of initiative and the ability to work without constant supervision.
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or Arabic is preferred.
Work Environment

The work environment is a normal school environment with a noise level that is at times moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust, and the like.
