Job Title: School Social Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate School Social Worker to join our team at SER Metro-Detroit. As a key member of our Youth Services department, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional and academic well-being of our students.

Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, with experience working with children and families in a school setting. You will be responsible for providing counseling services, collaborating with teachers and staff to develop individualized plans, and working with parents to support their child's school adjustment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide direct counseling services to students, addressing a range of issues including mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, and academic struggles.
  2. Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including identifying specific counseling-related goals.
  3. Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each student's needs and circumstances.
  4. Develop and implement positive behavioral intervention strategies to support student success.
  5. Assess students with mental health concerns and provide recommendations for support.
  6. Develop and lead staff in-service training programs to enhance their understanding of social-emotional learning and mental health.
  7. Work closely with parents to facilitate their support in their child's school adjustment.
  8. Provide direct support to staff, including training and coaching on social-emotional learning and mental health.
Requirements:
  • Active license/certification as a social worker for the state of Michigan (LMSW and/or LCSW).
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a school-based setting.
  • Experience with RTI/MTSS and other intervention plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and prioritize assignments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact with students, parents, and staff in a positive and productive manner.
  • Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives, and community partners.
  • Ability to remain composed and work effectively during high-pressure and stressful situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and online sourcing tools.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check.
Work Environment:

This role operates in a normal school environment with a moderate noise level. The employee will routinely use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
