Tower Technician

NSTI is seeking a skilled Tower Technician to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining communication systems throughout Alaska and beyond.

Key Responsibilities- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and site drawings to determine work to be done.
- Mobilize and prepare tools and materials for remote locations.
- Install and test power, ground, coaxial, and OSP cables.
- Check antenna positioning and adjust as necessary.
- Replace existing antennas with new ones as directed.
- Install transmission equipment components, including antennas, surge arrestors, and tower-mounted amplifiers.
- Perform basic rigging and tie solid knots.
- Test tower transmission components and inspect completed work.
- Take site survey photos and complete reports using computer software.
- Conduct self-safety at all times and participate in THA or tailgate jobsite meetings.
- Current certification in Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue.
- Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines and practical use of these guidelines.
- Basic troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Technical knowledge of wireless telecommunications products preferred.
- Ability to multi-task in a demanding environment.
- Experience in tower-rigging preferred.
- Knowledge of Anritsu and/or PIM testing preferred.
- Solid mechanical skills.
- Cable installation, termination, and testing.
- Strong construction and fabrication skills.
- Culture of safety and PPE.
- Strong mathematical ability.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrates self-performance management through planning, organization, and prioritizing.

- Grasp, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach in any direction; install and maintenance of telecom and electrical boards and/or componentry.
- Standing and remaining upright on the feet; telecom installation and maintenance.
- Climbing; ascending or descending ladders up to 30 feet high, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles.
- Heights; working on scaffolding and towers up to 30 feet high.
- Hazards; includes a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and large equipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education, documented electronics education preferred.
- At least 2 years verifiable experience in some combination of required skills.
