Position Title: Program Specialist

ROLE SUMMARY

The Program Specialist, functioning as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), operates under the guidance of the Director of Special Education and the Executive Director of Educational Services. This role is pivotal in offering consultative, supportive, and advisory services to educators, guardians, administrators, and staff in the execution, development, and management of programs tailored for special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. The specialist is dedicated to providing guidance, instruction, and support, managing the educational process, and addressing the unique needs of each student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in crafting proposals, developing new initiatives, budgeting, and securing grants to align with Da Vinci's objectives.
  • Support educational institutions in realizing their programmatic vision, including full inclusion and resource allocation.
  • Guide staff in formulating instructional goals and methodologies to effectively implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with exceptional needs.
  • Collaborate with Da Vinci personnel, other educational districts, private institutions, and external agencies to ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of services and programs.
  • Conduct annual site evaluations of Non-public schools (NPS) or Residential Treatment Centers (RTC) to confirm the appropriateness of student placements.
  • Facilitate and participate in professional development meetings focused on General Education and Special Education.
  • Act as an administrative representative in IEP meetings, empowered to make decisions regarding supports, accommodations, and services for students and Da Vinci Schools.
  • Assess programs and projects to fulfill and advance Da Vinci's vision for special education.
  • Assist site teams in preparation for and during specialized IEP meetings.
  • Provide site support and guidance on compliance matters related to special education.
  • With direction from a Director, offer resources and assistance for site decisions regarding student placement changes, including independent study and out-of-state educational options.
  • Collaborate closely with site staff and behavioral teams to promote student success.
  • Clarify policies and procedures for any member of the IEP team as necessary.
  • Attend significant IEP meetings as an administrative representative.
  • Maintain close communication with the Director of Special Education regarding any concerns.
  • Manage requests for Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) as required.
  • Participate in mediation hearings or due process hearings when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, theories, practices, methods, and techniques utilized in special education instruction.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills characterized by tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Relevant sections of the Education Code and applicable Federal Laws, including provisions of IDEA and section 504 of the ADA.
  • Current trends and research concerning students with exceptional needs.

Skills to:

  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Prepare comprehensive narrative reports.
  • Effectively plan, organize, and implement appropriate support services.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in handling confidential matters.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Special Education Credential, or another California Special Education Credential, Clinical Services Credential, Health Services Credential, or school psychologist authorization. A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in special education or a related field is required. Additionally, a valid California driver's license is necessary.

COMPENSATION: $87, $113,585.00/annual. Full-time position with benefits, 11 months, 205 days.
