Position Overview:

As a Lead Software Engineer specializing in Automotive Systems, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of vehicle software at General Motors. Your expertise will drive the development of advanced Linux kernel drivers and system libraries tailored for high-performance automotive applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement robust hardware interfacing solutions within the Linux kernel environment.
  • Architect innovative frameworks for next-generation System-on-Chip (SoC) based systems, guiding projects from initial concept through to production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and refine kernel development strategies.
  • Customize device trees to accurately represent the unique hardware configurations of our automotive software-defined vehicle (SDV) platforms, ensuring precise descriptions of peripherals, memory regions, and interconnects.
  • Integrate security protocols to safeguard against cyber threats, maintaining the integrity of automotive systems through secure boot processes, signed kernel modules, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Develop and implement secure over-the-air update mechanisms, allowing for safe and efficient software updates to the automotive Linux distribution.
  • Engage in Linux kernel debugging to resolve issues and enhance system performance.
  • Establish a comprehensive maintenance strategy for the automotive Linux distribution, focusing on regular updates, patch management, and lifecycle support to adapt to evolving requirements and security challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Communicate vision and strategies effectively, preparing and delivering presentations as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in kernel driver development and board support packages.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux Kernel Frameworks such as DMA, V4L2, ALSA, and UART.
  • Experience with embedded build systems, including Yocto, Buildroot, and OpenWrt.
  • Proficient in bootloader configuration and customization (e.g., U-Boot, GRUB) for embedded Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with device tree usage for hardware configuration in embedded Linux environments.
  • Strong understanding of Linux Kernel Internals, including memory management and device driver frameworks.
  • Experience in deploying commercial embedded Linux systems and board bring-up processes.
  • Knowledge of ARM architectures and experience working with the Linux kernel community.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
