Job Summary

The Town of Middletown, RI is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Lifeguard - Beach Safety Specialist. As a key member of our beach safety team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for beach patrons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain surveillance over assigned sections of the beach, surf, and sand areas to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including water rescues, and provide basic first aid and medical care as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with beach patrons, staff, and the general public in a professional and approachable manner.
  • Assist with beach cleanliness and maintenance, including disposing of trash and debris.
  • Participate in educational courses and training to enhance lifeguarding skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Must possess proper RI State SURF certification and maintain it as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess current American Red Cross (or accredited institution) Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED certification and maintain it as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to swim, run, paddle rescue boards, row, and perform other strength and endurance training on a daily routine.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License in order to operate beach rescue vehicle as needed.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills and demonstrate a commitment to the highest quality of customer service.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to swim, sit, stand, walk, run, talk, hear, use their hands and fingers, to handle or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms; is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Rescue torpedo, surf rescue board, kayak, rescue boat, whistles, two-way radios, 800 MHz radio, 4-wheel drive vehicle (gator)
