Job Overview

Position Title: CNC Machinist

Objective:

The CNC Machinist is responsible for the fabrication of machine components through the programming, setup, and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machinery. This role involves loading materials into the machine, executing production cycles, and identifying any operational issues, such as worn or defective cutting tools. The CNC Machinist will oversee production runs, collaborate with team members regarding workflow, and uphold a safe, organized, and clean workspace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all operations in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Plan machining processes by analyzing work orders, blueprints, engineering specifications, materials, and machining parameters.
  • Program CNC mills and lathes by inputting instructions, including establishing zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, and compensation; calculating requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and validating part programs.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, and other necessary components.
  • Load materials into the feed mechanism.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions and assessing first-run parts and sample workpieces, ensuring compliance with international standards.
  • Maintain specifications by monitoring drilling, grooving, and cutting operations; taking measurements; identifying malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting controls; and adhering to quality assurance protocols.
  • Ensure safe operations by following established safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, following manufacturer guidelines and troubleshooting any issues.
  • Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs to ensure continuity across shifts.
  • Maintain production and quality logs.
  • Enhance job knowledge through educational opportunities and technical literature.
  • Contribute to organizational goals by embracing new challenges and seeking opportunities to add value.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in manual machining preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating CNC machinery and tooling, as well as precision tools, including their design, application, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in creating precision technical plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of metals, their quality, machinability, and applications.
  • Mechanically inclined with a solid understanding of manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and review work effectively.
  • Capable of safely operating a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and work orders.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to lift and transfer products using a hoist or overhead crane.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Tasks may involve standing, sitting, or walking.
  • Requires manual dexterity for handling, grasping, and fine manipulation.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing.
