Position Overview

Job Title: Lead Community Recreation Coordinator

Department: Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services

Compensation: $25.51 per hour

Classification: Temporary

Job Summary:

The Lead Community Recreation Coordinator plays a vital role within the Community Services division of the PARCS department. This division is dedicated to providing engaging programming for individuals of all ages, fostering connections among residents through various activities, resources, and community events. Under moderate supervision, the selected candidate will be responsible for guiding, organizing, and executing a diverse range of recreational and community service initiatives, including after-school programs, day camps, youth activities, and special events. The Lead Coordinator is expected to work autonomously as well as collaboratively, demonstrating sound judgment and initiative. A key responsibility of this role is the development and promotion of after-school programming.

Supervisory Duties:

  • May oversee the responsibilities of Recreation Program Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the design, promotion, and execution of a comprehensive community service program for all age groups; assessing program effectiveness and suggesting improvements.
  • Supporting the activities of staff and volunteers; may involve planning, assigning, training, directing, and monitoring staff tasks.
  • Assisting in the scheduling, operation, setup, and daily upkeep of city programs.
  • Enforcing safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintaining orderly conduct among participants during various events and programs.
  • Processing registrations for classes and programs using relevant software.
  • Providing basic first aid to participants and spectators, as well as performing related emergency techniques.
  • Offering support for child development initiatives.
  • Assisting children with activities, nutrition, and personal care needs.
  • Serving meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Carrying out cleanup and food storage tasks.
  • Preparing instructional crafts and materials, engaging in, and encouraging play activities with children.
  • Assisting in providing tutorial and remedial activities in small groups.
  • Opening, securing, and cleaning program areas before and after use; preparing spaces for scheduled activities and events.
  • Participating in and/or leading staff meetings, family conferences, and other special gatherings; observing and monitoring family conditions and reporting concerns to the coordinator/supervisor as necessary.
  • Maintaining required documentation, including observation notes, logs, and other records.
  • Aiding in the training and coaching of Recreation Program Coordinators and collaborating closely with the coordinator to assess performance.
  • Planning for and managing program supplies and materials; monitoring resource needs and initiating purchases of supplies and equipment.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
