Position Overview:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the mechanical engineering team within your operational divisions. Your expertise will ensure the highest quality in all engineering initiatives while assisting in the development of appropriate fee structures.

You will collaborate closely with management to achieve project delivery objectives, oversee project manhour allocations, and manage client expectations effectively. Depending on project scope and complexity, you may also take on the responsibilities of a Project Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex engineering tasks with efficiency and precision.
  • Design intricate HVAC systems tailored for healthcare facilities, laboratories, and specialized ventilation projects, including data centers and clean rooms.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, material quantity assessments, estimates, surveys, and designs necessary for HVAC documentation.
  • Possess a solid understanding of HVAC cooling and heating load analysis software.
  • Familiarity with the International Mechanical Code (IMC) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) is essential.
  • Knowledge of LEED requirements and a LEED BC&D certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in ASHRAE standards, including 90.1, 62.1, 55, 170, and SMACNA.
  • Conduct industry-standard energy audits and develop actionable plans prior to execution.
  • Perform energy calculations and assist in existing building commissioning.
  • Analyze operational characteristics through reading and interpreting sequences of operations and technical drawings.
  • Provide technical support to CAD Designers, Drafters, and junior engineers on projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Advise senior management on engineering-related matters as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of a 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, coupled with 10-15 years of relevant experience, is required. Professional Engineer registration is mandatory. Additionally, a minimum of 2 years of experience in energy efficiency engineering for buildings or industrial applications is preferred. Certification as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

Proficiency in CAD and Microsoft Office software relevant to engineering tasks is essential.
