Academic Coach for Adult Learners

At Metropolitan Ministries, Inc., we are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Academic Success Coach to join our Adult Education program. As an integral member of our team, you will play a vital role in enhancing the educational success of adult learners.

The Academic Success Coach is responsible for providing personalized tutoring, mentorship, and support to help clients develop study skills, build confidence, and achieve their educational and vocational goals. This position requires a strong understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse participants.

The ideal candidate will possess a non-judgmental, empathetic, and caring approach, with the ability to listen well and demonstrate confidentiality and respect for clients from all ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. Bi-lingual candidates are preferred, but not required. Reliable transportation and a U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status are also essential requirements.

• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to adult learners in various subjects, including basic math, science, American history, and vocational topics.
• Develop individualized learning plans tailored to each learner's needs and goals.
• Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment to enhance client motivation and confidence.
• Guide clients through study materials, focusing on developing study skills, encouraging self-sufficiency, and building confidence in their ability to learn.
• Establish connections with clients by spending time getting to know them and sharing casual information about themselves.
• Collaborate with the Adult Education Program Director to ensure alignment with program goals and address any concerns.
• Track and report on client progress, attendance, and engagement, providing detailed synopses of each tutoring session to the Adult Education Advisor.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills and knowledge.

This is a 20-30 hour per week position that offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of adult learners. In return, you can expect:

• A bi-weekly living allowance of $500 (gross before taxes) and a monthly stipend of $700 (gross before taxes).
• An education award of $2,817.14 upon successful completion of service.

• Internship hours, which many members can use towards their academic programs.
