Position Summary:
The role entails ensuring optimal patient care in compliance with the Alabama Department of Health EMS regulations. The individual will be accountable for the safe operation of NorthStar EMS vehicles following the Alabama motor vehicle code.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance personal expertise to provide exemplary patient care and serve as a role model for other emergency service professionals.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients to identify signs of illness or injury and collaborate with other medical staff as needed.
- Deliver prompt and effective patient care, stabilizing conditions prior to transport.
- Ensure safe handling of patients during transfers to the ambulance.
- Facilitate secure and efficient patient transport while continuously monitoring their condition and providing care within the scope of certification.
- Oversee the orderly transfer of patients to medical facilities.
- In emergency situations, utilize training to extricate patients when necessary.
- Guide and supervise EMT trainees and observers on the unit.
- Operate NorthStar EMS vehicles safely, adhering to state motor vehicle regulations and prioritizing public safety.
- Maintain ambulance readiness by stocking and organizing supplies and equipment.
- Work in challenging environments to ensure patient safety and stabilization.
- Collaborate with local BLS, ALS, fire, and law enforcement agencies for coordinated patient care.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, and service reports promptly, ensuring accurate billing.
- Actively participate in NorthStar EMS quality assurance initiatives.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and facilities in a state of readiness at all times.
- Conduct daily checks of vehicle systems and complete necessary reports.
- Participate in the training and evaluation of new staff when requested.
- Demonstrate punctuality and readiness for shifts.
- Exhibit professionalism and sound judgment in conflict situations.
- Adhere to the NorthStar EMS chain of command and quality assurance programs.
- Comprehend and follow written instructions from medical professionals, which may include technical terminology.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, utilizing communication devices as needed.
- Report vehicle issues to supervisors and document them appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive information encountered during professional duties.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Constantly engaged in high-pressure situations and intense tasks. May work alone or with others, both indoors and outdoors.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current State of Alabama Paramedic/Credentialed/Transfer Drugs license.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judgment and professionalism in conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with the geographical layout of the NorthStar EMS coverage area.
- Physical agility to perform tasks such as walking, climbing, and lifting.
- Stamina to handle loads exceeding 125 pounds.
- Ability to see and differentiate color spectrums.
- Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Capacity to recognize normal and abnormal physical conditions through various observations.
