Job Overview:
Oversees the operations of the nursing unit, ensuring adherence to quality, service, and utilization benchmarks. Manages daily shift activities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Directs the clinical operations of the unit, focusing on practice standards, staffing, payroll, budget management, and quality enhancement. Guarantees the delivery of superior care while complying with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as established departmental protocols. Formulates and executes strategies for staff development. Oversees a single unit comprising approximately 8 to 24 employees. Assesses the distribution and use of personnel in response to ongoing changes in patient demographics and needs, ensuring optimal patient care while identifying cost-saving opportunities. Manages daily unit functions, including human resources oversight, employee safety initiatives, and risk management protocols. Evaluates service quality and utilization metrics, taking responsibility for patient care at the unit level. Ensures coordinated treatment plans, customer-centered care, and efficient service utilization. Collaborates with external healthcare providers to enhance patient care throughout the healthcare continuum. Researches and adopts best practice models from other units. Addresses and resolves patient and family concerns regarding care. Kaiser Permanente routinely reviews compensation for positions. The organization reserves the right to reassess and modify job descriptions or change positions from salaried to hourly status, typically after notifying affected employees. Required Qualifications: Experience At least two (2) years of nursing experience is required. A minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role such as charge nurse, preceptor, or quality improvement leader is necessary. Education Graduate from an accredited nursing program. A high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required. License, Certification, Registration Registered Nurse License (California) is required upon hire.
Basic Life Support certification is necessary.
Additional Qualifications:
Proof of completion of training as a preceptor or charge nurse. Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement, clinical care delivery, staffing, and budgeting. Familiarity with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other relevant regulatory requirements. Strong interpersonal communication abilities. ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications may be required for specific departmental roles. Ability to function effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification is highly preferred. A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
