We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Merit Board Investigator to join our team at the Cook County Sheriff's Office. As a Merit Board Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive background investigations to determine the eligibility of potential sworn employees.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough background investigations, including reviewing academic, work, credit, and military history, as well as criminal background and driver's license validity.
- Interview applicants, former employers, and references to validate authenticity and gather information.
- Conduct criminal history checks through various law enforcement agencies and review documentation submitted by applicants.
- Ensure all required documentation is submitted by applicants and review all documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and submit Investigative Summary Reports and other documents as required.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting investigative activities.
- Knowledge of professional investigative techniques and methods.
- Ability to quickly grasp and utilize policies, protocols, systems, and procedures of the Cook County Merit Board and Cook County Sheriff's Office.
- Ability to understand and interpret law enforcement agencies' criminal background reports.
- Ability to administer and coordinate investigative activities, exercise discretion, initiative, and resourcefulness.
- Proficiency in computer software programs used in background investigations and ability to produce accurate and organized reports.
