Position Summary:


Under the guidance of departmental leadership, this role involves preparing high-quality biological blood components within designated timelines, adhering to regulatory and operational standards as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures and departmental protocols.


Responsibilities:
1. Manufacture Red Blood Cells (RBCs), Fresh Frozen Plasma, and Recovered Plasma.
2. Produce Neonatal RBCs and sterile dock Pedipaks to Platelet Apheresis and Neonatal RBCs.
3. Perform leukoreduction of Whole Blood and RBCs.
4. Create Cryoprecipitate, Pooled Cryoprecipitate, and Cryo Reduced Plasma.
5. Label products to comply with regulatory and inventory standards.
6. Develop additional specialty products as required by clientele.
7. Adhere to protocols regarding the proper storage of RBCs, platelet products, and frozen items.
8. Conduct and document equipment function checks and quality control as necessary.
9. Maintain productivity levels to meet departmental production objectives.
10. Participate in weekend, holiday rotations, and on-call duties as needed.
11. Perform other assigned responsibilities.
12. Comply with all organizational policies and standards.

Qualifications:
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

Less than 1 year of related experience (1-6 months) or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Proficient in reading, interpreting, and writing documents such as operating forms and departmental manuals.
2. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities are essential.
3. Ability to apply judgment to both written and oral instructions is required.
4. Competence in computer usage and data entry skills is necessary.
5. Capability to manage interruptions in a fast-paced environment is required.
6. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.
7. Ability to organize work effectively to ensure productive workflow in component manufacturing.
8. Flexibility to work independently and collaboratively within a team is required.
9. Organized, capable of prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
10. Availability to work a flexible schedule based on blood collection volume and timing is required.
11. Ability to work independently with minimal written or oral guidance is necessary.
12. Understanding of military time is required.

Tools and Technology:

1. General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine) is required.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is necessary.
3. Familiarity with software systems (Blood Establishment Computer Systems, Title21) is required.
4. Experience with lab-specific equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Centrifuge
  • Water bath
  • Scales
