Patient Care OB Surgical Assistant Labor and Delivery Specialist

Job Summary:
The Patient Care OB Surgical Assistant is a vital member of the surgical team at St. Luke's University Health Network. This role requires a high level of skill, experience, and compassion to provide exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Registered Nurse in providing health care to patients, participating in data collection, planning, and implementation of patient care.
- Scrub and handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary to provide optimal patient care during surgical interventions.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to create a smooth, functioning unit.
- Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice, including glucometry, phlebotomy, and collecting specimens.
- Transcribe orders, re-sheet charts, and schedule tests and procedures.
- Communicate new orders, changes in patient condition, and unit concerns with the unit-based team.
- Restock unit supplies as needed and complete documentation per hospital policy.
Requirements:
- High School graduate.
- Preceptoring and on-the-job training.
- Ability to prioritize duties and function as a member of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
Sit up to 1 hour per day. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; possibly 6 hours at a time. Walk up to 8-10 hours per day; up to 2 hours at a time. (Required to use manual dexterity for handling and twisting/turning.) Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 lbs.; frequently lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds; frequently push objects up to 100+ pounds (i.e., camera carts, microscopes, unicels, etc.). Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must have the ability to move quickly. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision. Depth perception necessary. Ability to tolerate visual monotony.
