Job Title: Heavy Truck Master Technician

Join the City of Jacksonville's Fleet Management Division as a Heavy Truck Master Technician. This is a highly skilled mechanical position that requires expertise in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects in heavy vehicles
  • Perform complicated engine repair and overhaul, including adjusting clutches and replacing main and connecting rod bearings
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical systems
  • Perform general and advanced mechanical repairs to systems such as fuel, exhaust, cooling, and transmission
  • Road test vehicles to determine whether repairs have been completed
  • Write service requests and diagnoses mechanical problems
  • Prepare and maintain records on jobs
Requirements:
  • Four years of education and/or experience in the general repair and overhaul of heavy vehicles
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment
  • ASE Master Certified Technician with Certifications T2-T8 required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment
  • Ability to inspect and determine mechanical repairs needed on heavy vehicles with gas and diesel engines
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on heavy vehicles
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform engine and transmission repairs using a scan tool
