Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections, maintenance, modifications, troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and testing of various aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their components.
- Prepare aircraft for flight by jacking them to the appropriate configuration, connecting power sources, and utilizing cockpit controls and precision instruments to verify the functionality of critical systems such as landing gear doors and brake systems.
- Employ and maintain specialized tools and testing equipment necessary for performing assigned duties.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate the necessary experience and skills as outlined in the OPM Qualification Standards Handbook. The focus is on the quality of experience rather than the duration.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Your qualifications will be assessed based on your knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies in the following areas:
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic principles, including the physical laws governing fluid behavior and troubleshooting procedures for isolating malfunctions.
- Familiarity with aircraft structures and the interrelationship between hydraulic systems and other aircraft systems.
- Awareness of safety regulations and documentation procedures relevant to aircraft maintenance.
- Ability to perform modifications, repairs, and maintenance as required.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
- Capability to operate testing equipment and utilize hand tools effectively.
Physical Requirements
This position requires moderate to strenuous physical effort, including:
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 60 pounds with assistance.
- Engagement in activities that involve pushing heavy equipment and working in cramped positions.
- Exposure to high noise levels and various environmental conditions.
Working Environment
The role involves working in hangar areas, outdoors, and within aircraft, often in challenging conditions that may include exposure to extreme temperatures and hazardous materials.
