Job Purpose

The role of Mechanical and Project Engineer involves the implementation and communication of operational plans for project completion, monitoring progress and performance, resolving operational challenges, minimizing delays, and identifying resources necessary for project success. A solid understanding of mechanical systems is essential, along with the ability to develop schedules, budgets, and forecasts, select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors. Responsibilities include estimating costs, resources, and time required for project completion, with a focus on equipment such as HVAC systems, boilers, controllers, lift station equipment, pumps, air compressors, and dryers. This position may also require support for projects outside the Mechanical Engineering discipline.

Key Responsibilities


• Enhance and maintain facilities mechanical systems, including design, coordination, preventative and predictive maintenance, capacity management, controls, and upgrades.

• Oversee the operation of mechanical systems, including centrifugal fans, burners, cooling/heating coils, pumps, centrifugal air compressors, centrifugal chillers, and heat exchangers. Maintain documentation for site mechanical systems and communicate essential updates to operators.

• Review and update electrical and mechanical drawings as necessary from design through equipment acceptance.

• Ensure that building mechanical systems meet customer capacity and reliability requirements.

• Develop and manage project schedules, scopes of work, budgets, and project workflows to support company-wide initiatives.

• Implement innovative engineering strategies and technologies to replace aging facilities equipment and systems.

• Create scope documents based on departmental project needs. Manage or assist in the bidding, evaluation, and selection of contractors for design and construction projects. Prepare project budgets and ensure accuracy in investment prioritization. Supervise engineers and on-site contractors, generate project tracking documentation, and prioritize tasks to meet project goals on time and within budget.

• Train associates on operational enhancements related to mechanical and electrical systems. Provide support as needed and ensure that reference documentation is accessible. Foster the development of knowledge and skills through technical training, mentoring, and cross-training to promote associate growth.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 0-6 years of experience in managing mechanical or facility-related projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems from concept through design and implementation, as well as troubleshooting and repair. Familiarity with electrical and structural systems in a manufacturing context is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, customer-focused approach, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project) and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, gain consensus, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with control systems architecture and programming.
  • Ability to balance customer department needs with facilities equipment requirements.
  • Knowledge of project flow, budgeting, cost reporting, and project tracking to ensure targets are met.
  • Understanding of equipment reliability systems, including preventive maintenance, equipment monitoring, and end-of-life evaluations.
  • Willingness to travel for departmental reviews and planning events.
  • Experience in both manufacturing/production environments and office settings.
  • Potential for assignments supporting other facilities or suppliers.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or during shutdowns as needed.
