Job Summary

AAS Healthcare Staffing is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Benefits Assistant to join our team. The Benefits Assistant will be responsible for processing leave of absences, managing disability programs, and assisting with benefits administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and track the leave of absence process for both union and non-union employees, collaborating with management, health services, and payroll as needed.
  • Send necessary paperwork to employees, process claims, and track time off for various types of LOA, including Workers Compensation, FMLA, Maternity/Paternity Leave, Unpaid Leaves, and Disability.
  • Complete disability forms and process claims for the Disability Program at the Medical Center.
  • Manage employee intermittent leaves, providing employees and management with reports and data on usage.
  • Monitor and track the employee portion of health benefit premiums during unpaid leaves of absence.
  • Correspond with employees and management to notify them of key dates and milestones during the leave of absence, and create situation-specific letters regarding time-off requests, terminations, etc.
  • Ensure timely and efficient submission of sensitive documents to internal and external clients.
  • Act as the point person for employees with inquiries about leave of absences.
  • Update employees' timecards and calculate proper paycheck deductions for employees during leave periods.
  • Establish FMLA claims, track and code documentation according to internal workflow processes.
  • Maintain employee LOA files and ensure data integrity.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute data and reports on leave of absences.
  • Stay up-to-date on state and federal regulations concerning leaves of absence and disability accommodations, and make recommendations to management regarding process and workflow improvement.
  • Assist the department with benefits administration, including assisting employees in filling out paperwork for their benefits packages and resolving problems or disputes regarding benefit provisions.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Human Resources/Benefits, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with leave administration, including ADA accommodations and benefits administration preferred.
  • Familiarity with leave of absence policies, FMLA, ADA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and ability to learn new software systems quickly.
