Job Summary

This is a full-time position with the Department of Transportation. The Region Operations Technician is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of sign, billboard, and junkyard data, customer compliance with Federal and State outdoor advertising and junkyard laws, and environmental outreach programs such as Adopt-A-Highway activities along State highways throughout a Department of Transportation Region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate sign, billboard, and junkyard data
  • Ensure customer compliance with Federal and State outdoor advertising and junkyard laws
  • Develop and implement environmental outreach programs
  • Perform duties such as outdoor advertising, annual outdoor advertising inventory, right-of-way billboard negotiations, off right-of-way directional signs, inventory on business signs on specific and supplemental information panels, tourist oriented directional signs, junkyard control program, no passing zones determinations, procurement research of equipment, equipment part(s), and materials, warehouse inventory transfers, issues, and account receivables, inventory control for region warehouse, temporary traffic control, pavement marking inspections, and training, development, and work direction
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver license required
  • Knowledge of manual of Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) desirable but not required
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation materials testing procedures preferred but not required
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations to make precise measurements and determine rates of materials
  • Ability to operate computers and use Microsoft software
  • Ability to display high standards of ethical conduct
  • Ability to treat customers courteously and be responsible to their needs
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and promote a friendly work climate in order to achieve shared goals
  • Ability to remain focused in stressful situations and keep emotions under control at all times
  • Ability to display a high level of effort and commitment towards completing assignments and goals
  • Ability to actively identify development needs, take advantage of development opportunities, and apply newly learned knowledge and skills on the job

The total compensation of Hourly Wage + State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level (classification) is approximately $69,602.00 annually.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
