Position Overview
The role of the Meat Processing Associate is essential in supporting experienced meatcutters by undertaking basic tasks involved in the preparation of beef, pork, veal, and lamb into retail and ready-to-eat portions for customer sale.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled meatcutters by executing fundamental tasks during the processing of various meats into consumer-ready cuts.
- Utilize automatic or manual wrapping machines to tray, wrap, weigh, and price meat products, ensuring accuracy by consulting price lists.
- Maintain stock levels in display cases and rotate products to uphold quality standards.
- Operate, clean, maintain, and sharpen a variety of hand tools and powered equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the work area to meet required health standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate their qualifications and meet the necessary requirements by the application deadline. Experience in a retail meat department, including tasks such as traying, wrapping, and weighing meat, is highly valued. Familiarity with cutting, trimming, and boning meat, as well as operating meat cutting machinery, is essential.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods. Continuous walking and standing are necessary, along with frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of meat products weighing between 50 to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
Employees may experience temperature fluctuations due to working in loading docks, refrigerated areas, and exposure to outdoor conditions. There is a potential risk of minor injuries such as cuts or bruises.
