Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks an exceptional and visionary academic endocrinologist to assume the role of Division Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. This is an opportunity for a full-time Professor or Associate Professor Physician Scientist to provide strong, clinical leadership and spearhead the expansion of our clinical, educational, and research programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership with responsibility over all aspects of the division's operations across all missions (clinical, teaching, research, and service).
  • Assess needs, develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to advance strategic priorities in all missions, as well as faculty career progression according to the UW Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) and UW-Madison Appointment and Promotion Criteria.
  • Promote and support the advancement of a diverse faculty, on all tracks, and a welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide strong leadership in administering all operations directly or through delegation.
  • Work collaboratively with Department of Medicine central administration and division administrator, vice chairs, and other leaders in the Department of Medicine, and leadership of UW School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Health, and its partners, and the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
  • Provide clinical patient care as an endocrinologist.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the University of Wisconsin system. We have 11 subspecialty divisions, approximately 1500 faculty, staff, and learners, a $120M research portfolio (FY20), a nationally recognized residency program, 21 subspecialty fellowships, and a primary clinical affiliation with UW Health, the integrated health system of UW-Madison.

Requirements:
  • Candidate must be an acknowledged academic physician with demonstrated excellence in research, education, and clinical care.
  • Must possess a record of scholarly achievements, outstanding leadership skills, professionalism, and ability to develop interdisciplinary, collaborative programs.
  • Formal experience in teaching, both didactic and in the clinical setting, of Endocrinology to learners enrolled in a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA) accredited medical school and/or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited program.
  • Candidates for Professor or Associate Professor rank must meet criteria for appointment per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track.
  • Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License.
