Position Overview: The Oncology Registered Nurse Specialist is an integral member of a collaborative team comprising both licensed and unlicensed caregivers dedicated to delivering personalized, high-quality, and safe patient care. This role involves the application of contemporary clinical practice standards, particularly in administering chemotherapy and targeted therapies for both malignant and nonmalignant conditions. The specialist is tasked with ensuring safe patient care while being attuned to age-specific and culturally sensitive needs. This position addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational requirements of patients and their families, especially in complex scenarios. The Oncology Registered Nurse Specialist also acts as a clinical resource for nursing and medical staff, guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing principles, and evidence-based practices.
Core Responsibilities:
1. **Clinical Excellence:**
- Execute the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Provide relationship-centered care tailored to diverse patient populations, adapting service delivery to reflect cultural understanding.
- Collaborate with patients and their families, ensuring their goals are central to the care plan.
2. **Team Collaboration:**
- Coordinate and document the delivery of safe, quality patient care, promoting a respectful and inclusive clinical environment.
- Engage in interdisciplinary communication and teamwork to enhance care delivery and foster a supportive workplace.
3. **Professional Development:**
- Complete ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
- Mentor and precept other nursing professionals to cultivate a qualified workforce and promote a healthy work environment.
4. **Evidence-Based Practice:**
- Advocate for and participate in nursing research and performance improvement initiatives.
- Uphold all healthcare policies and standards, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- **Education:** Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- **Licensure:** Current RN license (Single State or Multi-state Compact) and BLS certification required.
- **Experience:** Minimum of one year of direct patient care in a clinical setting; chemotherapy competency required.
- **Skills:** Proficient in English, adept with technology, and possess strong interpersonal and critical thinking abilities. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing time effectively.
