Job Summary

The City of Glendale is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our Public Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing complex professional engineering design work and supervising the work of a design or inspection group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and maintain the highest level of ethical standards.
  • Manage major projects involving preparation and supervision of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, and reports for various civil engineering works.
  • Review and supervise checking of plans, specifications, and computations for conformance with building codes and municipal ordinances.
  • Supervise and assist in checking plans, specifications, and computations for private development applications.
  • Confer with architects, contractors, and the general public regarding building code requirements and restrictions.
  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and municipal ordinances.
  • Prepare project feasibility studies, technical research reports, and correspondence.
  • Supervise employees of a lower classification in assigned engineering tasks.
  • Assume personal responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe and efficient manner.
Requirements
  • Two years of professional engineering experience in Civil Engineering work, including one year in municipal Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid Class C California driver's license.
  • Registration as a Civil Engineer with the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers.
Selection Process

The selection process will consist of an oral interview, which will assess the candidate's experience, education, and general background for the position. Candidates must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70.00% to be placed on the eligible list.
