Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathology Specialist to join our team at PeaceHealth. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Pathology department, utilizing the pathology lab information system to assist pathology staff and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate send-out testing for the department
  • Accession pathology specimens
  • Organize and provide reports on a timely basis to the Laboratory Manager as requested
  • Assist the pathology department with managing supplies for the department and customers
  • Assist with collection and/or processing of pathology and cytology samples
  • Transcribe assigned dictation as needed for pathology reports
  • Assist clients with receiving pathology reports
  • Provide IS support to the LIS analyst and act as a super-user within the department
  • Assist with department quality assurance tasks, billing, and statistics
  • Maintain compliance with all department safety and compliance regulations

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma equivalent required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Previous anatomic pathology experience preferred

Skills:

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with Epic Beaker AP preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently
  • Ability to work in distracting environment and under pressure
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and use of department resource materials

Working Conditions:

  • Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH)
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force
  • Reaching frequently
  • Squat/kneel occasionally

Environmental Conditions:

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals

Mental/Visual:

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted)
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
