Inova Health System is seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team in Fairfax, Virginia.
Job SummaryWe are looking for a highly qualified Radiation Therapist to work with our team of medical professionals in providing high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical physics and radiation safety, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with physicians to ensure accurate and safe use of ionizing radiation in patient treatment.
- Attend hospital committees and meetings to discuss radiation safety and quality assurance.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with department directors and medical directors.
- Provide medical physics coverage as needed, including radiation therapy, cardiac catheterization, and other areas.
- Work with engineering to design radiation shields and ensure safe use of radiation equipment.
- Oversee the acceptance and testing of new medical equipment and imaging networks.
- Perform calculations and measurements to develop new treatment and imaging techniques.
- Review and verify calibration protocols to ensure accuracy and safety.
- Investigate and evaluate new equipment and technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Compare data with other radiation therapy institutions to ensure best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with clinical and dosimetry literature in the field.
- Develop and maintain contacts with physicists in other practices.
- Confers with physicians and other medical professionals to discuss patient dosages, equipment evaluation, and quality assurance.
- Cooperate with state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with rules and recommendations.
- Confers with vendors to discuss purchase specifications, acceptance testing, and quality assurance.
- Maintain dosimetry records in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Discuss radiation exposure with patients and the public.
- Deliver physics lectures to Inova personnel on radiation matters.
- A master's degree in Physics or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Clinical Medical Physics.
- American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification is required.
- Virginia Inspector certification within the first two months of hire.
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours is required.
- Knowledge of scripting is preferred.
- Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred.
- Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred.
- Strong communication skills are required.
