Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Hopkins Public Schools. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support to students with special needs, promoting their academic and social growth, and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs, reinforcing learning materials and skills, and assisting with activities of daily living.
  • Assist certified staff in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), monitoring student progress, and communicating with parents and other stakeholders.
  • Supervise students in various settings, including instructional spaces, mainstream classes, and extracurricular activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Collect and chart data on student progress, behavior, and goals, and participate in regular meetings with teachers and other support staff to discuss student needs and progress.
  • Implement programs and strategies recommended by physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and follow third-party billing protocols as directed.
  • Reinforce positive student behavior, assist with de-escalation and redirection, and participate in the development and implementation of behavior plans.
  • Assist with daily life management, including meal planning, preparation, and communication with parents and other stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Two years of post-secondary education or a passing ParaPro score.
  • One year of experience working with children, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations within the district.
Working Environment

This position is based in a school setting, with occasional travel required to locations throughout the district. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
