We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Grounds Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Fort Wayne Community Schools. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the beauty and safety of our grounds and landscaped areas.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and beautify grounds and landscaped areas through mowing, edging, trimming, and watering.
- Operate a variety of power-driven equipment, including mowers, tractors, and snow throwers.
- Plant, cultivate, trim, prune, spray, fertilize, and irrigate flowers, trees, grass, hedges, and shrubs.
- Participate in snow removal activities, including clearing entryways, walkways, and other areas of snow.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment, including sharpening blades, checking and replenishing oil, and replacing spark plugs.
- Repair custodial equipment, including HEPA vacuums, scrubbers, and water extractors.
- Apply weed control methods to eradicate weeds and other pests.
- Work from ladders, bucket trucks, and scaffolding as needed.
- Assist other maintenance personnel in emergency situations.
- Maintain work areas, equipment, and tools in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in grounds maintenance.
- Valid Indiana driver's license.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 or more pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from heights as needed.
The physical demands of this job include regular walking, standing, and bending. The employee will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.
This is a full-time position with a regular schedule, but may require non-scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends.
