About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician - Bacterin to join our team at Vaxxinova US in Willmar, MN. As a key member of the bacterin department, you will be responsible for the growth and processing of bacteria used to create vaccines based on proprietary SRP technology.

Main Responsibilities
  • Bacterial Processing
    • Operate production fermenters and associated control systems, and oversee the fermentation process.
    • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble fermentation equipment.
    • Prepare liquid media used during the fermentation process.
    • Filtrate, wash, and sample bacteria through downstream processing.
    • Maintain a clean work environment to ensure sterility.
  • Compliance, Process Improvement, and Teamwork
    • Maintain records associated with bacterial processes. Records are kept manually.
    • Work independently as part of small teams during processes.
    • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and maintain continuity in workflow.
    • Perform routine facility cleaning and keep work areas neat and orderly.
    • Complete required document training and safety training.
    • Assist with experimental design and technical transfer projects. Communicate project status with stakeholders across departments.
    • Train or cross-train other technicians.
    • Review and update manufacturing documentation.
    • Research new equipment and processes, applying information to job responsibilities.
    • Work on cross-departmental teams to implement novel processes.
    • Answer technical questions for other members in the department and for other departments.
Qualifications and Capabilities
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • General proficiency with MS Office is necessary.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and record-keeping skills.
  • Able to prioritize work and multitask.
  • Able to identify, analyze, and resolve problems.
  • Able to work on equipment while standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting is required; able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • A high school diploma is required, and a two- or four-year degree in any technical field is preferred.
  • One to two years' experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
