Key Responsibilities

As a Transportation Assistant, your duties will include:

  • Acting as the primary liaison for fleet quality assurance and evaluations, preparing reports, and managing property functions related to the oversight of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Gathering, consolidating, and analyzing data regarding vehicle assignments, usage, income, mileage reports, preventive maintenance, incidents, billing, and more.
  • Supporting the Working Capital Fund (WCF) Manager by providing administrative, budgetary, and program assistance related to the planning, justification, presentation, execution, and review of the Regional Working Capital for vehicles.
  • Maintaining accurate motor vehicle records within the Moveable Property System (MPS) and Financial Business Management System (FBMS) databases.
  • Creating essential documents, such as Property Vouchers and Reports of Survey, for the office under your jurisdiction, and correlating source documents for motor vehicles and heavy equipment from all field offices.

Employment Conditions

  • You must be suitable for federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.

  • You must meet any minimum education and/or experience requirements.
  • A valid State Driver's License must be maintained at all times, as the role requires the operation of government vehicles.
  • A successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician is required, certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • You must possess or be able to obtain a forklift operator license.
  • Capability to operate a passenger vehicle, pickup truck, and delivery truck for transporting personnel, equipment, and supplies is essential.

Qualifications

To be considered qualified for this position, the HR Office must confirm that you meet the specialized experience requirement, which must be clearly documented in your resume.

GS-07 Specialized Experience - To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in federal service, demonstrating experience in:

  • Managing accountability and control over Government Fleet cards, including their issuance, receipt, replacement, and disposition.
  • Tracking fuel expenses, maintenance, and repairs to accurately forecast expenditures.

Experience includes both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.

Education

This position does not permit substituting education for experience. Only education from accredited institutions recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable for meeting education requirements or substituting for experience.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, proof must be provided that the education has been evaluated by a recognized organization specializing in foreign educational credentials, confirming equivalency to U.S. education standards.
