Assistant Vice Chancellor, Managing Attorney

The University of Texas System is seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to serve as Assistant Vice Chancellor, Managing Attorney in the Office of General Counsel. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team of attorneys and support staff who provide legal counsel and guidance to the UT System and its universities on various legal matters.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance to the UT System and its universities on various legal matters, including intellectual property, real estate, contracting and procurement, tax, gifts and estate planning, employee benefits, securities, mergers and acquisitions, university policies, state and federal regulatory compliance, complex investigations, and risk management. The candidate will also supervise and lead a team of legal professionals and support staff, and will be responsible for researching, reviewing, interpreting, and preparing legal opinions and advice.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must have a graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas or become so-licensed within six months of hire, and have at least 12 years of legal experience. Preferred qualifications include experience working in higher education, management experience, and experience in one or more of the following areas of law: intellectual property, real estate, contracting and procurement, tax, gifts and estate planning, employee benefits, securities, mergers and acquisitions, university policies, state and federal regulatory compliance, complex investigations, and risk management.
What We Offer
The University of Texas System offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including a standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in either TRS or ORP is mandatory. A background check will be conducted on applicants under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request from the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
