Brudis & Associates, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Construction Project Engineer to act as an inspector for a significant highway initiative. This role involves oversight of construction activities along a major interstate route. Expectations include potential Overtime, Night Work, and Weekend Work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily monitoring and documentation of contractor activities through electronic Inspection Daily Reports, ensuring coordination with MDTA responsibilities.
- Perform comprehensive inspections of all construction operations to guarantee quality workmanship adheres to contract specifications. This includes verifying contractor stakeout and grades, ensuring compliance with erosion and sediment control, managing traffic maintenance, coordinating utility contracts, and conducting materials testing.
- Maintain precise and organized records of contract items and quantities completed by contractors, in accordance with established construction manuals. This includes diaries, sketches, measurements, and quantity calculations.
- Evaluate contractor safety programs and provide recommendations for corrective actions to both the contractor and MDTA management as necessary.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in highway construction management, including oversight of inspection teams.
- Experience in construction inspection must encompass:
o erosion & sediment control,
o earthwork operations,
o construction in/around flowing streams,
o storm drainage systems,
o hot mix asphalt paving. - Preferred certifications include: MDE Responsible Personnel Certification (Green Card - Erosion & Sediment Control); MSHA Erosion & Sediment Control Certification (Yellow Card); MSHA Temporary Traffic Control Training; MARTCP Soils & Aggregate Compaction; MARTCP Concrete Field Technician; and MARTCP HMA Field Technician.
- Proficient in utilizing computer equipment and software relevant to the MDOT e-Construction environment.
- Ability to interpret project plans and contract specifications effectively.
- Capable of preparing detailed reports and maintaining comprehensive project records.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with agency personnel, contractors, and the public.
- Able to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
