Position Overview

The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) plays a crucial role in delivering patient care in collaboration with surgeons and physicians. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive surgical history and physical examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests to develop effective care plans.
  • Writing prescriptions and managing controlled substances in accordance with Delineation of Privileges.
  • Assisting in surgical procedures as the first assistant in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
  • Performing clinical procedures under direct or indirect supervision.
  • Facilitating continuity of care by managing patients throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
  • Conducting inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care, and bedside procedures.
  • Managing outpatient clinics and procedures, providing family and patient education, and participating in grand rounds.
  • Collaborating with staff, administration, patients, and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas.
  • Providing on-call coverage, requiring high-level decision-making during weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Master's degree.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Physician Assistant, Basic Life Support, NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant, Drug Enforcement Administration.
  • Compliance with state of Florida requirements for CMEs and licensure.
  • BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications as required by specialty/function.
  • DEA License as required by specialty/function.
  • Ability to obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges as necessary for the practice location.

Experience

Minimum required experience in a relevant field is essential for this role.
