San Jose, California, United States Sanmina Full time
Job Title: Yield Engineer

Sanmina Corporation is a leading integrated manufacturing solutions provider serving the fastest growing segments of the global Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) market.

As a Yield Engineer at Sanmina, you will be part of the quality organization of a Sanmina facility that makes some of the most complex and mission-critical PCB solutions on the planet.

Job Purpose:

The PCB industry is experiencing a renaissance with the industry focusing on Interconnect Technology and Miniaturization. With layers of circuits approaching more than 70 layers and features approaching below 1 mil (25.4 microns), the industry is rapidly changing from the early 2000s to enabling technologies in the 2020s and 2030s.

Sanmina's PCB division is at the forefront of this renaissance, offering new opportunities for talented engineers in chemical engineering, material science, physics, and mechanical engineering.

As a Yield Engineer, you will work closely with the Engineering and Manufacturing teams to investigate the root causes of factory yield detractors and implement lasting corrective actions.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Work with Quality and IT to identify and implement new methods and capabilities for enabling efficient analysis of manufacturing data for yield improvement.
  • Review the daily yield report and FA results to ensure that major scrap defects are coded correctly.
  • Investigate the root cause of low-yielding products by thorough analysis of in-line and end-of-line test results against process and equipment data.
  • Work closely with the process engineering and operation teams to improve the effectiveness of in-line monitors in an effort to mitigate end-of-line yield fallout.
  • Work with all departments to define the yield improvement strategy based on FA and Pareto analysis.
  • Lead focus teams in aggressively eliminating main yield detractors using the 8D methodology. Supports continuous improvement activities using DMAIC or similar methods.
  • Be the focal person for best practice sharing with sister PCB sites.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Science Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in PCB or semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Strong data analysis skills and proficiency with tools such as JMP, Minitab, Excel.
  • Experienced in statistical data analysis and Design of Experiments.
  • Proven track record in solving problems using 8D and continuous improvement via DMAIC.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • A go-getter capable of independently resolving issues that slow down the yield improvement progress.

Salary Range (annual): $98,000.00 - $135,000.00

In addition, Sanmina provides a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
