Job Description

Western Digital is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Product Engineering to join our team. As a key member of our product engineering team, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of electronic hardware verification and manufacturing test plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execution of electronic hardware verification and manufacturing test plans (from NPI to EOL).
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors to develop, deploy, and maintain functional testers/fixtures.
  • Performance of failure analysis on HW/SW development and production issues.
  • Monitoring of product build/test yield, creation of failure Pareto, and in-depth analysis.
  • Driving of Contract Manufacturer (CM) personnel for product build and corrective actions.
  • Debugging of issues by analyzing manufacturing test logs.
  • Support of Design for Excellence (DFx) for new product design, suggesting data-driven improvements.
  • Assembly, bring-up, and debugging of new electronic test equipment designs.
  • Design and execution of test plans for validation of test systems and subsystems.
  • Overseeing of the development and evaluation of equipment/tools/fixtures to aid in the manufacturing process.
  • Proactive performance of Design of Experiment (DOE) to resolve test yield issues.
  • Technical communication with different region counterparts.
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes in high-volume environments.
  • Familiarity with standard electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Good understanding of electronics circuits.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (preferably Python, Bash script) and ability to understand code.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux OS, architecture, editors (vim and/or nano), and command lines.
  • Understanding of SQL Database is a plus.
Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills, good communication skills, and ability to work in a team.
  • Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn new technologies.
  • Comfortable with at-a-desk design, hands-on laboratory work, and interfacing with manufacturing.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience is required.
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills.
