The 20-bed Nurse Residency Unit (NRU) serves as the foundation of the Med/Surg Nurse Residency Program at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. This unit supports seven med/surg departments by onboarding three cohorts of new graduate nurses annually.
New graduate nurses will complete their initial orientation on this dedicated unit under the guidance of experienced preceptors, ensuring they develop a robust clinical foundation before transitioning to their designated home units.
The Nurse Residency Unit fosters a secure learning environment aimed at cultivating competent and highly-skilled nursing professionals. Our committed preceptors, leadership team, and Nurse Residency Coordinator offer exceptional support to nurse residents throughout their orientation and practice transition.
Within the advanced Main Tower, NRU nurses deliver high-quality nursing care to acute care patients by employing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
The NRU nurse is accountable for upholding practice standards and coordinating patient care activities among all assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:The staff nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients across the lifespan, utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
They function within the framework of the organization's policies and procedures while demonstrating professional growth and accountability.The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining practice standards and coordinating patient care activities among all assigned staff to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care.
QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
New graduates of a nursing program are eligible.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Georgia or NLC/eNLC Multistate License. BLS certification is required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced certification in the field of specialty, if applicable. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Nursing experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
